Renting without a deposit

A deposit is not a payment — it comes back. It is returned after the inspection if there is no damage and no fines. $100 is held for up to 30 days: that is how long traffic fines take to surface. No fines — the money is returned.

The deposit equals the CASCO deductible. Your maximum exposure in an insured event is the deposit amount; the rest is covered by the insurer if the case is recognised.
